Route 66! The Mother Road! The Main Street of America! United States Route 66 was established on November 11th, 1926 and originally went from Chicago, Illinois all the way to Santa Monica, California, passing through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. Depending on which version of the route you take, it is roughly 2,448 miles.

In California it enters from Arizona at the town of Needles and finally comes to a finish at the pier in Santa Monica, known as the End of the Trail. This article will eventually cover the entire route in California, but right now, it is a major work in progress. Since most readers here are usually from California, we'll go in the non traditional direction, starting in Santa Monica, and heading east towards Needles.
