As you drive down this road watch out for ghostly nuns. For over a century, three nuns reportedly stand, arms crossed, dressed in black and white habits, on the side of the road. Now called Las Tres Hermanas, these three sisters were supposedly tortured and killed by Native Americans, and have haunted the road ever since.
The three sisters are perhaps from the Santa Barbara Mission and despite being warned not to leave Santa Barbara, did so anyway with supplies, medicine and candles for those who needed it. But before they could reach the first Native American village, they were set upon, tortured and murdered. It is said that the sisters before they lost consciousness even forgave their killers.
Their ghosts are usually seen at night with bright blue eyes and shining glowing faces. They turn to watch cars passing by. It is rare to see them during the day, although visitors have supposedly felt the nuns emotional imprint.
