Golden Goose
South 10th Street and East Fremont Street,
Las Vegas, Nevada
89101
Down at the corner of 10th Street and Fremont Street, not too far from Atomic Liquors and the Llama Parking Lot, is a goose wearing a cowboy hat, clutching a golden egg, while sitting on a nest of more golden eggs. The entire display sits on a large purple box entitled "Golden Goose". At night it lights up and even spins!
This goose is the former mascot of the Golden Goose Casino! The goose was originally outside the short lived casino first opened back in April 1974 by Herb Pastor and only lasting really until 1980. The location eventually became part of Glitter Gulch Casino and then later the Glitter Gulch Gentlemen's Club. In 1980 Vegas Vickie was placed to the right of the goose. And in 1994, the entire street, goose and all was covered up by the Fremont Street Experience. Surprisingly, although the original casino it once was the mascot for only survived a few years, the goose, made by YESCO (Young Electric Sign Company), sat on Fremont Street over the same building for 42 years, nest and all, along with some dangling golden eggs!
The building the Golden Goose was on was destroyed in 2017 to make way for Circa, and thus the Golden Goose was donated to the Downtown Project, moved, restored, and set up in November 2019 on a corner down the street where Fremont Street intersects South 10th Street. The goose sits near the corner in a small park on a purple shipping container with "Golden Goose" written on it. The goose turns on in the evening, both lighting up and spinning around. They did an excellent job restoring the iconic goose, and the fresh paint and lights looks amazing.
The Golden Goose
The Golden Goose was created by the YESCO sign company and installed in its original location in 1975 on the top of the Golden Goose casino at 20 Fremont Street. It remained there for 42 years until its nest was demolished in 2017 to make way for a new casino project. At the time, DTP Companies took possession of this iconic advertising piece and they pledged to put it back on public display. After an extensive restoration project in 2019, the Goose was ready to soar over Fremont Street and DTLV, once again.
